Coming Soon – “Proofs of God” by Matthew Levering

I’m a sucker for a new apologetics book. But I’m also a fan of Matthew Levering so you put the two together and you know this is going on my must-read list. Proofs of God (Baker Academic) will be a welcome introduction to the history of the classical arguments for God from Tertullian to Barth. Here’s the catalog description:

“Leading theologian Matthew Levering presents a thoroughgoing critical survey of the proofs of God’s existence for readers interested in traditional Christian responses to the problem of atheism. Beginning with Tertullian and ending with Karl Barth, Levering covers twenty-one theologians and philosophers from the early church to the modern period, examining how they answered the critics of their day. He also shows the relevance of the classical arguments to contemporary debates and challenges to Christianity. In addition to students, this book will appeal to readers of apologetics.”

Watch for it next March. Proofs of God will be a paperback with 272 pages and sell for $26.99.

Matthew Levering (PhD, Boston College) is the Perry Family Foundation Professor of Theology at Mundelein Seminary, University of Saint Mary of the Lake, in Mundelein, Illinois. He previously taught at the University of Dayton. Levering is the author of numerous books, including Engaging the Doctrine of Revelation, The Theology of Augustine, and Ezra & Nehemiah in the Brazos Theological Commentary on the Bible, and is the coauthor of Holy People, Holy Land. He serves as coeditor of the journals Nova et Vetera and the International Journal of Systematic Theology and has served as Chair of the Board of the Academy of Catholic Theology since 2007.
