A month ago we had the privilege of hosting Dominique DuBois Gilliard at the store to discuss his book Rethinking Incarceration: Advocating for Justice that Restores.

Rev. Gilliard has drawn heavily from the work of Bryan Stevenson, Michelle Alexander, and others. However, his unique contribution to the conversation is the theological perspective that rises out of his background as a minister. The audience and I got a taste of that voice during our discussion, in which he described the troubling issues currently present the United States’ criminal justice system, as well as the history behind those issues. He also introduced us to the concept of restorative justice and laid out some practical ways in which the church can practice and work toward justice that restores.

You can watch my interview with him here.
